The Witch Hare: A Tale for Mrs. Murphy & Mrs. O'Sullivan | S1 Ep2

As part of the Stories of Samhain series

Experience the sacredness held within the voice and tradition of Irish oral storytelling. Enjoy at your leisure - maybe curled up with a warm cuppa tea or held within the wild embrace of the magical natural world that surrounds you.

Mo ghrá go léir / All my love,

Erica

I am ever so grateful for your supportive response to the first episode of the Into the Circle podcast.

This past summer, my time in Ireland gifted me several experiences that invited me into a deeper relationship with the Irish landscape, language, and my cultural identity.

Looking back now, whether it was receiving my long lost silk sealskin from the Selkie Mother at the sea-foam edges of the Atlantic ocean’s hem or receiving a power-filled reclamation story told by Sheela na Gig at the Hill of Kings (a future podcast episode, I promise), it feels that this recent visit was about remembering all of who I am - as a daughter of Ireland.

Now, more than ever, the stories call to me. And the podcast has become a beautiful place for me to share my love for the magic immersive storytelling.

For I believe:

Stories are medicine.

Stories are culture.

Stories are connection.

Stories invite us to transcend time and space. Offering us an opportunity to dance between realms.

Stories encourage us to honour who we are and where we come from.

With this of heart and mind, over the next several weeks, I am thrilled to be sharing a special collection of stories in a series called Stories of Samhain.

For just as the new year beckons at our door, the spirits and their stories have much in store.

Let’s begin with an enchanting ‘tail’ of two wise women and a seasonal food competition - in this reimagining of the Irish folktale The Witch Hare1.

So, with that…

Rachaimis ar thuras le chéile.

Let’s take a journey together.

Being of Irish and French ancestry, I continue to be reverently grateful to the traditional spirits and keepers of the land [past, present, and forth-coming] of the unceded and unsurrendered territory of the Algonquin Anishinabeg People; where I was born and currently reside.

Culture, language, and stories run within the rivers and are held within the stones of landscapes. Míle buíochas, a thousand thanks, for the opportunity to share stories alongside you.
